Three from the same family including two children have been killed in a head-on collision involving a three-wheeler and a lorry on the Elpitiya – Aviththawa main road on Saturday (20) evening. Police said that the deceased individuals include the 68-year-old driver of the three-wheeler Nihal Somaratne, his 10-year-old grandson Thinula Fernando and his seven- year-old granddaughter Senuli Fernando.
Meanwhile, the 61-year-old wife of the deceased person and another 18-year-old girl who sustained injuries in the accident, have been admitted to the hospital, according to Police. The driver of the lorry has been arrested in relation to the accident. He has been remanded until May 6 after being produced in Courts.
Elpitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
