Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella announced in Parliament yesterday (19) of a temporary suspension in the emergency purchase of some drugs due to procedural irregularities.
The Minister responding to Badulla District SJB Councilor Chaminda Wijesiri, also said that steps will be taken to investigate the emergency purchase of .Meropenem 1g injection, which is an essential life-saving drug.
The Minister said that he will work as the minister to prevent irregularities in the purchase of drugs and take steps to control fraud and corruption within the Health ministry.
According to the 2016, 2017 cadre, there is a shortage of 14,000 Health personnel islandwide, which may be around 16,000 by now, the Minister said.
The Minister also said that the government has informed that measures will be taken in this year’s Budget to cover 50% of the shortage of Health personnel.
