Presidential candidate MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD) said that the presently scattered energy sector in the country will be brought under a single Ministry under a National People’s Power (NPP) government.
The NPP leader AKD expressed these views at the launch of the Power and Energy Policy statement by the NPP presided over by him for the upcoming Presidential election which was organized by the NPP held on Thursday (15) evening in Colombo.
AKD said that there is a need for internal restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
The NPP Presidential candidate AKD addressing the gathering said: “We are preparing an electricity generation plan to meet the increasing demand for electricity in the country to provide continuous electricity at reasonable pricing efficiently through this policy of NPP and through the overall economic plan put forward by the NPP. The government is bringing emergency purchases as a solution. This is not an issue related to Electricity Board employees or any so called mafia by engineers. It is a political issue.
We will remove the black talk that is prevalent presently in the energy sector by cleaning it. The CEB needs an internal restructuring to take place. We are in favour of inviting private investment in power generation. But unjust projects will not be allowed. We are going to place all these under one Ministry.”
