Enhanced showery conditions to continue

Prevailing showery conditions over the South Western parts of the country is expected to be enhanced temporarily during the next few days, the Meteorology Department said.

Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy showers about 50 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva Province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.

Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western Provinces and in Hambantota, Monaragala and Trincomalee districts.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure area located over the Central Bay of Bengal is likely to move West-northwestwards and reach North Odisha coasts by today. Very strong winds (70-80) kmph, accompanied with heavy rain falls and very rough seas are likely over the sea areas bounded by (10N – 20N) and (83E – 93E).

Naval and fishing communities are also requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Meteorology Department in this regard.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough or very rough at times.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Matara via Kankesanthurai, Puttalam and Colombo will be rough at times.
