Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation – Nimal Siripala de Silva, declared open the Enquiry Centre of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) yesterday (11) enhancing the capabilities of the Port of Colombo, which plays a pivotal role as a hub port and international trade and shipping center with continuous operational activities.
Accordingly, the SLPA Enquiry Centre has been established with the aim of providing information about the port services in a more expedited and convenient manner for local and foreign customers connected with the Port of Colombo and to educate and acknowledge the public about the port operations.
The center will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering port service information through the hotline 1984.
This hotline will prove to be exceptionally convenient, particularly for individuals engaged in import, export, and shipping activities.
Anyone, inquiring for additional information, can visit the SLPA Enquiry Centre, situated at Lotus Road, Canal Yard, Colombo 01. Alternatively, inquiries for information can also be submitted via email at inquiries@slpa.lk.
At the inauguration of the center, the Minister placed the first call to the hotline. He underscored that the hotline service, being linked to international ports, offers the opportunity to promptly access up-to-date information in the realms of trade, shipping, and ports.
“The efficiency of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority’s services is expected to significantly improve with the introduction of the new Enquiry Center.”
“This initiative aims to reduce the frequency of one-on-one meetings between officials and customers or service recipients, thereby eliminating the necessity for in-person discussions with officials. This proactive measure would mitigate certain irregularities as well.”
SLPA’s Chairman, Keith Bernard, Managing Director, Prabath Malavige and a large number of higher officials also participated at this event.
