The carcass of a large mountain leopard which had died subsequent to getting caught in a trap at Brunswick Estate, Maskeliya was found yesterday (29).
The Nallathanniya Wildlife office had been informed after a group of tea pluckers had seen the carcass and Wildlife officials had commenced investigations. An officer said that this mountain leopard was about six feet nine inches in length and two feet eight inches in height and that it had got caught in a trap set by someone.
The official said further that based on permission obtained from the Hatton District and Magistrate’s Court, steps were taken to transport the carcass of the mountain leopard to the Randenigala Veterinarian hospital for a medical examination.
