The husband in the incident where a young married woman who was staying at her parents’ house in the Manuwangama area in Chilaw due to a family dispute was forcibly abducted has surrendered to the police. She was abducted by a group of youth including her estranged husband in a van recently.
He had surrendered to the police with his wife who had been abducted by him.
The woman has been hospitalised and the police say she is in severe mental stress. Police said it appears that the woman had been threatened not to say anything against her husband.
Police said that the abduction had been planned by a relative of the young man. The police are investigating to arrest several suspects in connection with the incident.
Police said that the 18-year-old married woman had left her husband recently and had come to her parents house saying that she had been unable to tolerate the harassment by her husband.
The abduction took place on the morning of April 19, and investigations have revealed that only the mother of this married woman was at home at the time of the abduction and she was also attacked by this group.
