Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and his wife, arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly misusing over Rs. 6.1 million in 2014, have been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela issued the bail order after the couple was produced in court today (23).
Two other suspects connected to the case were also granted bail.
The arrests stem from allegations that the former Minister and his wife misappropriated funds obtained from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) under the pretense of providing relief to flood-displaced residents in Bingiriya and Narammala in 2014.
Instead, the funds were allegedly diverted for campaigning activities during the 2015 presidential election.
