Sri Lanka’s Examinations Commissioner has announced the schedule for national examinations to be held in 2026, with seven major exams planned throughout the year.
According to the Department of Examinations Sri Lanka, the first examination of the year will be the General Information Technology (GIT) Examination for 2025, scheduled for Jan. 11, 2026.
The remaining subjects of the 2025 General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L) examination, which were postponed due to adverse weather conditions, will be conducted from Jan. 12 to Jan. 20, 2026.
The GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) examination for the 2025 academic year will be held from Feb. 17 to Feb. 26, 2026.
The Grade Five Scholarship Examination for 2026 is scheduled for Aug. 9, followed by the 2026 GCE A/L examination, which will run from Aug. 10 to Sept. 5.
Another General Information Technology examination, intended for students sitting the GCE A/L examination for the first time in 2027, will be held on Oct. 24, 2026.
The final national examination of the year, the 2026 GCE O/L examination, is scheduled to take place from Dec. 8 to Dec. 17.
Officials said the completion of the postponed 2025 A/L subjects in January and the conduct of the 2026 O/L examination toward the end of the year are part of measures to restore the national examination calendar to its normal schedule. (NewsWire)
