Farmers of Galle District urge the Government to issue fertilisers needed for farmlands in the next season instead of depositing the relief money in farmers’ respective accounts.
There were delays in crediting the relief money to the farmers’ accounts and there was no use of getting fertilizer relief during the harvesting season which should be got at the time of sowing, they pointed out.
Prices of paddy seeds, weedicides, and pesticides have been increased. We thank the Government for the increase of fertiliser relief up to Rs. 25,000.
We should get the required fertilizers such as DAP, TSP, or NPK at the time before transplanting and tilling stages. Government should provide facilities for the farmers to buy fertilizers at Agrarian Services Centres or at any of fertilizers outlets in the open market, Ruhunu Rata Farmers’ Collective President Ravindra Jagoda remarked.
