A father of two died while receiving treatment at Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital being seriously injured after falling from a jackfruit tree. He had climbed the tree to pluck a jackfruit. The incident was revealed at the post-mortem held into his death at the hospital.
The deceased was identified as Paragahathota Liyanage Samarawira Hemantha (80), a resident of Karagoda, Uyangoda, Matara. The autopsy of the deceased was conducted by Inquirer into Sudden Death of Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Chandrasena Lokuge.
The victim had fallen down when he tried to climb the tree using a ladder. He had also undergone a surgery at Karapitiya Hospital.
Judicial Medical Inquiry was held by Consultant Forensic MO Janaki Warushannadi.
Taking into account the evidence and medical reports, the coroner concluded that the death was due to the injuries caused to the vertebrae due to falling from a jackfruit tree.
