Panadura South Police arrested a father and son who had assaulted the deputy station master and a railway employee of Panadura railway station after an argument over a train ticket.
The deputy station master and employee who were assaulted have been admitted to the Panadura Hospital.
The Police say that the ticket-punching machine was also misplaced during the clash. Police say that the suspected son arrived hastily at Panadura railway station yesterday (2) around 9:30 in the morning and asked a staff member what time the next train would leave for Colombo. As soon as he brought a ticket from the ticketing window, the train left, and at that time he argued with the railway employee and assaulted him, and then two other employees in turn assaulted the suspect, Police said.
It was revealed during the Police investigation that the person who was attacked made a phone call and brought over a group of people to the station and then attacked the station master and an employee. The officers of Panadura South Police, who went to the spot immediately after the incident, arrested the father and son involved in the assault, and since the son had said that he was assaulted by the railway workers, he was admitted to Panadura Hospital under Police protection.
The suspected father and son are to be produced before the Panadura Magistrates Court.
