A 49-year-old female schoolteacher has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of three charges relating to the sexual abuse of a 14-year-old student, Lankadeepa reported.
The sentence was delivered by the Monaragala High Court Judge, according to the newspaper.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 and ordered the accused to pay compensation of Rs. 250,000 for each charge, totalling Rs. 750,000 to the victim.
The case relates to an incident in 2019, when the teacher allegedly took the student from school to her house and sexually abused the child.
The accused, a mother of two and a resident of Hindikiwula, Monaragala was prosecuted in a case filed by the Attorney General’s Department. (Newswire)
