Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has ordered the government-owned fertilizer companies to take steps to immediately distribute 21,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer needed for the upcoming season today (9).
Accordingly, the Ceylon Fertiliser Company and the Colombo Commercial Fertiliser Company will start the distribution of this Fertiliser today (9) and farmers will be able to purchase the Fertiliser from the Agricultural Service Centers.
Commercial Fertiliser Company and Ceylon Fertiliser Company Chairman Dr. Jagath Perera said a bundle of 50 kg urea Fertiliser will be sold for Rs.9,000.
The government will provide Rs.15,000 per hectare to each farmer who grows paddy to purchase chemical Fertilisers or organic Fertilisers according to the farmers’ choice.
