FIBA coaching programme begins in Colombo

Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF) is hosting the FIBA Level 1 Coaching programme for basketball coaches in Sri Lanka in collaboration with FIBA Asia Regional Office and National Olympic Committee. FIBA instructor Milan Koterac of Serbia is conducting the programme.

According to the secretary of SLBA Chandana Liyanage 40 coaches nominated from across the island are grouped into two and conduct both theory and practical sessions for six days each. The programme started on November 21 and will continue until December third at Royal Indoor courts and Air Force Indoor Court in Thummulla.

At the opening ceremony Milan Koterac noted that FIBA expect all coaches to be role models and needs to learn everyday to progress better. The SLBF expects this program will enhance the quality of basketball coaching in Sri Lanka and improve the player skill development.

The Secretary Chandana Liyanage said we are very keen to update our coaches and it is very important for the sport. “Recently Sri Lanka Basketball women’s team won the South Asian Championship while 3×3 Basketball also becoming popular at international level. SLBA is already focused on next Asian Games and we wanted to produce talented players as well as talented coaches”, said Chandana Liyanage.
