Fifth World Media Summit on December 3 in Guangzhou, China

The fifth World Media Summit (WMS) will be held on December 03 in Guangzhou, China. The Summit will be inaugurated by senior officials of the Chinese Central Government and Guangdong Provincial Government. President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua, UN Under-Secretary Genera for Global Communications Melissa Fleming are expected to address the summit.

The WMS is an essential high-end platform for media exchange and coordination. It was jointly launched in 2009 by a group of globally renowned media organizations, including Xinhua News Agency, the Associated Press, Reuters, TASS, Kyodo News, and others.

The inaugural WMS took place in Beijing from October 8 to 10, 2009. It witnessed the participation of over 300 representatives from more than 170 media outlets across 70 countries and regions. The event resulted in the issuance of the “World Media Summit Joint Statement”. The second WMS was held in Moscow from July 5 to 7, 2012, attracting over 300 representatives from 213 media outlets in 102 countries and regions.

The WMS Presidium, the supreme decision-making body of the mechanism, is responsible for important WMS matters. Currently, the presidium consists of 17 international media organizations, with Fu Hua, the President of Xinhua News Agency,, serving as its Executive Chairman.
