The inaugural session of the first student Parliament of the Nugegoda Anula Vidyalaya was held recently (26) at the school auditorium, under the patronage of Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament.
Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament, presented the key note speech on ‘Parliament and its Legislative Process’. The knowledge pertaining to the Parliamentary process and traditions was imparted to the student parliamentarians in a very simple manner with examples of practical experience. Moreover, the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament emphasized the importance of having knowledge regarding the parliamentary system from a very young age.
Furthermore, Mrs. Nayani Lokukodikara, who is a past pupil of Anula Vidyalaya and currently serving as the chief Hansard editor of the Parliament, also imparted knowledge on Hansard editing.
Mrs. Subhashi Priyadarshani, teacher in charge of the student parliament of the school, also stated that it is a pleasure to be able to gather the student parliament for the first time in the history of Anula Vidyalaya, providing with an opportunity to develop the leadership skills of the children.
The meeting was adjourned following brief statements made by the Ministers led by the Prime Minister post electing the Speaker at the inaugural session of the Student Parliament held on the said day.
The Deputy Secretary General of Parliament pinned the official badges and presented certificates to the new members of the Student Parliament and books were also given to the school library.
Media Manager Ms. Mrs. Nimmi Hathialdeniya, Principal of Nugegoda Anula Vidyalaya Ms. M. R. S. Irangani, Deputy Principal Yasanka Neranjani Piyadigamage were present in this program organized by the Public Outreach Division of the Department of Communication.
