Fisheries Harbour funds misappropriation case fixed for May 6

The case filed against six accused including former Deputy Fisheries Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne in connection with the alleged misappropriation of over Rs. one million allocated by the Fisheries Harbour Corporation, was yesterday fixed for trial on May 6 by the Colombo High Court.

The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe.

The Attorney General had filed indictment in the Colombo High Court against former Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne, former Fisheries Harbour Corporation Chairman Piyal Abeysekera, former National Lotteries Board Chairman Upali Liyanage, Chandana Pelpita, Upul Chaminda Perera Kumarasinghe and Lakmina Munidasa.

The Attorney General had filed an indictment against six accused, including former Deputy Fisheries Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne, alleging that they had committed an offence by spending Rs.1, 090,000 during the period between December 8, 2014 and January 7, 2015.
