Fisheries Minister looks into Southern harbour shortcomings

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda observed shortcomings in many of the fisheries harbours located from Panadura to Galle, during his observation tour, and instructed the relevant officials to provide solutions to the issues on Tuesday (19).

Firstly, the Minister observed the Galle Fishery Harbour and instructed the officials to repair the CCTV system and the water tanks that supply drinking water and instructed the Galle Fishery Harbour General Manager to repair the Harbour Jetty which is in a dilapidated condition.

Next, the Minister observed Dodanduwa Fishery Harbour and instructed the officials to repair two Beacon Lamps which were in a dilapidated condition, within two weeks. The Minister further instructed to take measures to remove the sand deposited at the estuary. The Minister also called a few leaders of the Tour Guides and instructed them to provide a suitable place for surfing which is a popular entertainment sport among tourists, since it may damage the boats of the fishermen.

The Fisheries Minister also inspected Hikkaduwa Fishery Harbour and instructed the officials to take measures to reconstruct the dilapidated jetty and to remove the sand deposited at the estuary.
