Ridigama Police have arrested five people, including a group of military personnel, who were digging for treasures in Ridigama, Ranthetikande area.
The Police say that a Lieutenant working at the Thalaimannarama Navy base, two Lance Corporals working at the Abimansala Camp, a 50-year-old man from Wellawa and a 70-year-old man working as a Kattadiya (Exorcist) from Gokarella are among the arrested suspects.
A senior Police officer said that the Police arrested these suspects based on the information received from the villagers while they were digging for treasure in Ranthetikanda. The official also said that this area is connected with the Ridi Viharaya which has historical importance.
The officer further stated that these five suspects were remanded until December 28 after being produced before the Rambadagalla Magistrate’s Court.
