The Prisons Department has interdicted five officers for negligence of duty after a suspect detained at the Boossa maximum security prison damaged several CCTV cameras.
Accordingly a jailor, a warden, a sergeant and two prison intelligence officers who were working in the relevant area of the Boossa prison at the time of this incident have been suspended.
This prisoner, who has been convicted in several cases, had been transferred from the Angunukolapelessa Prison to the Boossa maximum security prison recently.It is said that he had reacted angrily to this.
When he was taken out of the cell for exercise on the morning of November 25, he had climbed the wall of the cell and crept over the security wire edges of the side roof and had damaged 23 CCTV cameras.
Earlier an investigation had been initiated under an Assistant Prison Superintendent regarding the incident and Rathgama Police Station was informed to take legal action against the inmate for damaging public property.
Earlier also this inmate has been nabbed for unruly behaviour and there is also a court case against the inmate for causing damage to public property.
