Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister Nalin Fernando told Parliament yesterday (19) that the current Government was able to reduce the food inflation which had risen to 94 percent to minus 2.5 percent by last month.
The Minister also said that steps will be taken to increase the production and reduce the price of goods in the next two to three months.
The Minister said this while replying to the question asked by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s Moneragala district MP Kumarasiri Ratnayake who was expecting oral answers.
The Minister said that it has been possible to maintain the price of goods stable and the price of goods is in a situation where the people cannot afford it and there is an increase in the price of food in the income situation.
The State Minister said that there are problems with the manufacturer and today they have to pay more for fuel and electricity than they paid then and steps will be taken to protect the local manufacturer.
