The government has taken measures to re-establish the food policy committee.
The food policy committee which had been established as per the Cabinet decision dated October 3, 2022 enabling to ensure that the essential items including the food are supplied to the market without any scarcity, to take necessary steps for controlling the increase of cost of living as much as possible, and to take appropriate decisions following a coordinated approach with all the parties.
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to re-establish the said food policy committee consisting of the Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Prime Minister and the Secretaries of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Policy Compilation, Planning and Tourism, Ministry of Power and Energy, Ministry of Agriculture, Land, livestock, Irrigation, Fishery and Water Resources, Ministry of Justice, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Council, Local Government and Labour, Ministry of Trade, Commercial, Food Protection, Cooperative Development, Industry and Entrepreneurship, Development, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, Ministry of Environment, Wildlife, Forest Resources, Water Supply, Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities.
