Former CEA Chairman Supun Pathirage granted bail

The former Chairman of the Central Environment Authority (CEA), Supun Pathirage who was arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 10 million, was granted bail yesterday. The suspect was released on a cash bail of 25,000 rupees and 2.5 million rupees surety bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.

However, two other suspects, former Parliamentarian Chaminda Polgampala and Tennyson Fonseka were ordered to be further remanded till November 24.

The CEA Chairman was suspended from service after he was arrested on 10 November, for allegedly soliciting a bribe.

Three suspects were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10 million to issue an environmental clearance license for a project.
