Former manager of Piliyandala Ceypetco fuel station held for fraud

Piliyandala Police said that the former manager of the Piliyandala Ceypetco fuel station, which was controlled under the Piliyandala Bokundara Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, and was taken over by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation after it was confirmed that many large-scale financial irregularities had taken place, has been arrested.

A high-ranking Police officer said that the suspect was called to the police and arrested on charges of criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation as an employee of the Piliyandala branch of the Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society.

During the investigations, it was revealed that the suspect had committed fraud involving 409 litres of petrol in the last month, the official said.

According to a complaint made to the Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Darshan Ratnayake that a big fraud had taken place at the fuel station, based on the instructions of the Investigation Manager, Major Ranjith Samarasinghe, a special team had visited the fuel station on October 30 and during the preliminary inspection, it was found that a large-scale fraud had been taking place at the fuel station.

It was initially discovered that a motherboard had been attached to the petrol fuel pump in an illegal manner.

After checking it, it was revealed that it had been stolen from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, a top official of the CPC said.

Checking the data on the motherboard, it stated 2,165,350 litres of fuel – an excessive amount.

The officer said that the motherboards issued by the corporation have a special mark and it was recognized as a result of that mark.
