Suspects linked to the attack and killing of former Member of Parliament Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his security officer were produced before the Gampaha High Court today.
The incident occurred on May 9, 2022, in the Nittambuwa area, when then-MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his personal security officer were both killed in a mob attack. Several suspects connected to the attack were taken into custody.
Following the investigation, the Attorney General filed charges against 42 individuals in relation to the murders at the Gampaha High Court.
After a lengthy trial, the verdict was initially scheduled to be delivered on January 14. However, the three-judge bench reviewing the case decided to postpone the announcement of the verdict until today. ( NewsWire)
