Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa unveils pinnacle of Chethiya at Nelumvila Viharaya

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana and Sarath Weerasekera, MP, at the ceremony.

The unveiling of the pinnacle of the new Chethiya at Nelumvila Viharaya in Siyambalagoda, Polgasowita was conducted on Saturday under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The event coincided with the former President’s birthday. The programme was held according to the instructions of the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Witharandeniye Medhananda Thera.

Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana opened the internal Shrine Room of the newly constructed Chethiya.

The lighting up of the Chethiya was inaugurated by Gamini Lokuge, MP. The opening of the Viharageya was done by Sarath Weerasekera, MP and the opening of the external Shrine Room was done by the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Western Province, Deshbandu Tennakoon.

Professor Ven. Ittademaliye Indasara Thera, the Chief Incumbent of the Colombo Fort Sambuddhaloka Viharaya and Chancellor of Colombo University Ven. Muruttettuwe Ananda Thera, the Maha Sangha and the public attended the ceremony.
