Former Rajapaksa-Era Official Remanded Over Unexplained Wealth

Former Ministry Secretary and Former Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Anusha Palpita, was remanded until 6 February by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after he was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Palpita, a former ministry secretary and director general, was taken into custody on allegations that he failed to explain the source of assets worth about Rs. 46 million.

He was a key state official during the tenure of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, serving in senior roles across multiple state institutions.

He was arrested after appearing before the Bribery Commission to provide a statement, following which he was produced before court and remanded. (Newswire)
