Kandana Police arrested a person who had played in the Sri Lanka Rugby team for six years over the robbery of a hotelier. Police said that this ruggerite who came in a motorcycle had snatched a gold chain of the hotelier while the latter was cleaning
the drain in front of his house at Linton road in Kadana on February 20. The gold necklace weighing 26 pounds had two pendants.Police succeeded in arresting the suspect along with the motorbike investigations based on CCTV footage. Police have found the motorcycle in question had been robbed from a house in the Meegahawatte police division.
The suspect Kumar Premaratne (38), a resident of Delgoda Pananwala, played for the Sri Lankan rugby team eight years ago. Police said investigations have revealed that he has played in the Sri Lankan rugby team for six years.
The suspect has been addicted to drugs. It has also been revealed that he snatches gold necklaces and pawns them while traveling on a motorcycle to earn money for drug abuse.
The police have been able to find the stolen gold necklace even though it was pawned. Apart from that, the police have also found gold items related to a robbery in the Modara area.
