Fort Court Registrar remanded till Oct. 25

The Registrar of the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, who was arrested on charges of forging documents, was remanded till October 25 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohammed Rizwan.

The suspect Tharindi Harshani was arrested on Friday by the Criminal Investigation Department on suspicion of having prepared a fake letter stating that the foreign travel ban imposed on a suspect had been lifted and faxed the letter to the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.

The Registrar had allegedly informed the Controller-General of Immigration and Emigration in writing that a travel ban imposed on a suspect who was arrested by the Fraud Investigation Bureau in connection with an incident of fraud of more than three million rupees  from a company and was convicted on four charges out of eight charges has been lifted, the CID told court.

It has been revealed during the investigation that the relevant file related to the incident had gone missing, and the suspect Registrar was arrested based on the complaint received from the Fort Magistrate’s Court regarding a missing case file.
