Negombo Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau officials have arrested four persons, including a businessman who is a close associate of underworld criminal Heenatiyana Mahesh who is living in Dubai and is extorting from businessmen.
A top police officer said that these suspects were taken into custody day before yesterday (11) evening in the forest behind Dagellapola, Katana.
Police found a hand grenade in the possession of businessman who was identified as a close associate of Heenatiyana Mahesh. According to the police he is engaged in a business connected with iron. Police said that the underworld criminal Heenatiyana Mahesh was calling businessmen in Katunayake and Heenatiyana, intimidating them and threatening them asking for money and that this money is collected by one group of which these four suspects who were arrested, are members.
A member of Heenatiyana Mahesh’s gang was killed in a police shootout recently and another three members are already in police custody and have been remanded.
