Funds for Presidential Polls will be released to EC

Treasury Secretary K. M. Mahinda Siriwardena has assured the Election Commission (EC) that the required funds mentioned in the Presidential Election budget proposal submitted to the Finance Ministry by the Election Commission can be allocated and will be released to conduct the Presidential Election. Siriwardana together with his senior staff met with the Election Commission yesterday (17) at the Election Secretariat Office

in Rajagiriya for a discussion regarding allocation and provision of required funds for the upcoming Presidential Election.

Election Commission R.M.A.L. Rathnayake said on Tuesday (16) during the media conference held regarding the upcoming Presidential Election that the Election Commission has already submitted the Presidential Election budget proposal to the Finance Ministry and will be meeting on Wednesday with the Finance Ministry officials for a discussion on the matter.

Rathnayake said during the media briefing on Tuesday that Rs. 10 billion has been already allocated and provided to the Election Commission from the Treasury with the approval of the Finance Ministry for the Presidential Election, and further discussions were to be held on Wednesday with the Finance Ministry officials regarding obtaining funds for other election related expenses mentioned on the Presidential Election budget proposal that was submitted to the Finance Ministry.
