The Galadari management will invest USD 45 million for the first phase development of Hotel Galadari Colombo, said General Manager Sampath Siriwardena at a special event held on Saturday named, ‘Farewell Galadari.’
He said that the owner of the hotel, and Chairperson of Galadrai Brothers, Mohamed Galadari told them that despite the change of government the investment plan should go ahead without change of plans.
“He indicated to us they have confidence in the new government and also Sri Lanka as an emerging destination and requested us to go ahead with the investment.”
This refurbishment drive will commence from today (30) and will be completed by July next year. “the hotel would then be rebranded and opened as Radisson Blu Galadari.”
“When opened our new property with 200 large rooms will also house 3 franchise global outlets and will maintain high environment standards of the world. The second phase is expected to commence one year after the completion of phase 1. A world-renowned architectural company based in Hong Kong overlooks the overall designing process of the property. He said until the refurbishment is completed ground floor banquets and restaurants will function and permanent staff would not be retrenched.
He recalled that the hotel was opened in 1984 October (40 years ago) as Galadari Meridian (for 11 years) and later under the brand Marriott (for two years) and thereafter becoming a standalone property for 27 years.
“Thought the industry had its ups and downs, Galadari Hotel was always resilient.”
“Galadari Colombo is the only hotel in Sri Lanka to have won the SLIM-Kantar People’s Hotel Brand of the Year award for four consecutive years.”
