State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya announced that a Gazette notification was issued yesterday night relaxing import restrictions on 299 items, except vehicles. The State Minister said that the release of these import restrictions will lead to the further expansion of the economy.
“Apart from that, with the easing of import restrictions, there will be improvement by bringing the much-needed raw materials to the country for re-exports and increasing our industrial exports,” he added.
Accordingly, the State Finance Minister said that with the new decision import restrictions on all items, except vehicles and some items with HS codes related to them have been lifted.
On August 14, the Government, by way of a special gazette notification, eased the restrictions on importing public transport buses and special-purpose heavy vehicles.
