General Election: Dinesh leads UPFA, SLPP dialogue to field candidates

A discussion between the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) regarding their approach for the upcoming elections was held in Colombo yesterday (4).

The meeting took place following a decision by the executive committee of the UPFA, which resolved to engage in discussions with other political parties concerning the upcoming elections. The dialogue was led by former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, the leader of the UPFA, and Attorney Sagara Kariyawasam, the General Secretary of the SLPP.Given the current political climate in the country, which is expected to make this parliamentary election particularly significant, the UPFA’s executive committee has recently decided to initiate talks with other parties, organizations, and coalitions. This meeting marked the first step in that process.

The discussions covered the present political situation in depth and addressed strategies for not only the upcoming parliamentary elections but also the Provincial and Local Government elections.
