Glen Jude Bowen – A Dual Gold Medallist in UK

Glen Jude Bowen, an alumnus of St. Peters’ College, Colombo 04, has achieved two Gold Medals in two successive years from two reputed Universities in the UK. First was, when he gained batch top, earning First Class for BSc (Honours) in Biotechnology, at the exam conducted by the Northumbria University, New Castle, UK, while winning the President’s Gold Medal for the best all round student in 2022, as a graduand at the BMS Campus, Colombo 06. Secondly, this achievement was repeated in 2023 at the Swansea University in Wales, UK, for the degree, Advanced MSc in Engineering: Nanoscience to Nanotechnology, being the batch top with a First Class Distinction pass, earning the Faculty Gold Medal at the Graduation held on the December 16, 2023.

For his MSc, Glen completed a Chemical Engineering Research on Superhydrophobicity and Super Oleophobic Surface Chemistry for Coatings on Medical Devices at the Energy Safety Research Institute (ESRI) of Swansea University. Additionally, Glens MSc research dissertation earned one of the highest recorded marks in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering. To achieve this, he collaborated with Professor Shirin Alexander, Dr. James Courtney, Dr. Donald Hill from the ESRI and also obtained expertise from Professor Thierry Maffeis of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University.

Glen, the Valedictorian Biologist, is currently setting the stage for a PhD in the fields of Medical Engineering and Nano Chemistry, in which he already possesses proven knowledge and experience. This is besides the Apprenticeship with Circl UK, following the Future Leader Programme, with industry collaboration of the fibre optic leader Emtelle UK with his industry expert , Jean-Pierre Terblanche, a Product Specialist in Fibre Infrastructure. Incidentally, Glen was the MSc Batch representative for his Faculty, managing academic as well as professional activities between the students and the Board of Studies.

Glen is the only child of Walwin Faustinus and Julie Anne Bowen of Piliyandala.
