GMOA says health strike illegal, unethical

Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) media spokesman Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe yesterday lashed at the striking health staff identifying it as an illegal act which could force the government to look at an alternative such as using more technology and machines while reducing human resources for health services.

He said that this is an era where new technology and machines are used more and more to provide health services with new innovations sweeping the world. He said that the people of the country will be deprived of free healthcare and the health workers can be forced on to streets through such illegal strikes.

He said that the DAT allowance is an allowance only for doctors and despite this, it is an inappropriate process for a few health staff leaders who have suddenly woken up from their slumber to request this allowance.

He said that several trade union leaders are carrying out this strike based on their political agendas and whatever they say this fight is an illegal and unethical fight.
