God Skanda’s Eternal Love

In an ambitious move to revitalize the indigenous film industry, the eagerly anticipated press conference for Kadira Divya Raja was held at Hotel Sapphire, Wellawatta. The film’s premiere, set to grace screens nationwide on August 3, promises a captivating cinematic experience unlike anything seen before in the Sri Lankan film landscape.

On the podium, esteemed individuals involved in the creation of this remarkable movie gathered, including Kaveesha Theodore, Assistant Manager (Brands); Professor Sunil Ariyarathna, the visionary Film Director; and Dr Ravi Liyanage, the visionary Film Producer, all of whom played instrumental roles in bringing this exceptional project to life. The event also saw the presence of Ganaka Amarasinghe, Senior Director, and Bavantha Liyanage, Executive Director, representing the Raigam Group of Companies, who have thrown their support behind the film, driven by a commitment to elevate the local film industry.

Kadira Divya Raja showcases an unprecedented tale of love, centered around the beloved God Katharagama, also known as Kadira Deva Raja, revered across all major communities in Sri Lanka. For the first time in Sinhala cinema history, a divine narrative takes centre-stage, delving into the enchanting romance between a young maiden, Walli, and Lord Katharagama.

The film takes the audience back to the ancient times of the second century BC, where SuddaHaami and UkkuEthani, from a jungle tribe in the southern part of Sri Lanka, yearn for a child. Fate intervenes as they discover a beautiful female child in the heart of the jungle, aptly named Walli. As she grows, Walli finds herself inexplicably drawn to an image she has never seen in reality, and with her friends, she begins worshipping the image with devotion. Her world turns upside down when she learns from Naradha Rishi that her beloved is none other than the powerful God Skanda.

The story of Skanda Kumara unfolds, detailing his birth to Shiva and Parvathie, and the eventual triumph over the malevolent Asura Tharaka. As Walli grapples with her feelings for a deity already married to Devayani, the daughter of the King of Gods, Indra, she becomes overwhelmed with sorrow. Naradha Rishi conveys her emotions to God Skanda, setting the stage for an enthralling tale of love, devotion, and divine destiny.

Addressing the challenges faced by the local film industry, Dr Ravi Liyanage, the Chairman of Raigam Group of Companies, recognized the need to invest in captivating creations that could compete with sophisticated, imported films. By backing “Kadira Divya Raja,” the Chairman seeks to provide respite to Sri Lankan cinema audiences, offering a movie of unparalleled caliber that celebrates the island’s rich cultural heritage.

With Kadira Divya Raja, a cultural milestone unfolds, bridging the gap between tradition and contemporary storytelling, setting a precedent for future cinematic endeavours. As the nation eagerly awaits the film’s release on August 3, 2023, cinema enthusiasts are encouraged to embark on an unforgettable journey to witness the timeless love story of God Skanda, a tale etched in the hearts of Sri Lankans for generations to come.
