The Police yesterday seized six kilogrammes of gold worth over Rs.125 million which was in a passenger transport bus plying to Colombo to Jaffna. The gold had been transported to Jaffna to be smuggled to India via sea routes, police said.
Police officers had searched the bus at Armour Street area in Colombo. A 38-year-old suspect has also been taken into custody by the police on Friday.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the stock of gold was to be smuggled to India via sea routes from Jaffna. Police had also arrested another suspect, who is a resident of Jaffna in connection with the incident yesterday.
