Gold worth over Rs.1 Mn, cash Rs 1,500 stolen; Police suspect inside job

Hikkaduwa Police have commenced an investigation into the robbery of gold worth more than Rs. 1 million, which had been hidden inside a pillow. The theft had taken place in the early hours of Monday (28), at a house located on Surasena Mawatha, Duwagoda, Hikkaduwa. The owner of the house told police that the robbery had taken place between 1.00 am and 4.30 am. The rogue had gained entry into the house by breaking open a kitchen window, and along with the gold items, Rs.1,500 that had been on the table, had also been stolen.

The robbery had taken place while the residents were asleep in the house. Police suspect that the robbery was committed by someone who was aware that gold items were hidden inside the pillow.
