Golden Globes 2026: ‘One Battle,’ ‘Hamnet’ Top Winners

The Golden Globes returned for its 2026 edition with a reshaped identity and a familiar mission: launching Hollywood’s awards season with a mix of prestige, unpredictability and star power at the Beverly Hilton.

Hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, the awards night saw her opening monologue leaning into the industry’s recent upheavals while keeping the tone light. It was the second year under the Globes’ new ownership and voting structure following the disbanding of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The Golden Globes this year also introduced a new award category, with Amy Poehler winning the inaugural podcast award for her talk show Good Hang, which features her freestyle riffs and conversations with fellow comedians, friends, and celebrity guests.

On the film side, One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, emerged as the night’s most decorated title, winning four awards, including best motion picture, musical or comedy. Anderson also collected trophies for director and screenplay, cementing the film as an early Oscars contender.

The top drama prize went to Hamnet, an adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel that imagines the family life of William Shakespeare. Jessie Buckley won best actress in a drama for her performance, while Wagner Moura took best actor for the political thriller The Secret Agent.

In television, streaming platforms continued to dominate. Netflix’s limited series Adolescence won four awards, including acting honors for Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty. The show was recognized for its stark portrayal of youth violence and social breakdown.

HBO’s medical drama The Pitt claimed best television drama, with Noah Wyle winning best actor. Apple TV+ scored a comedy win with The Studio, and Seth Rogen earned best actor in a comedy series.

Animation also had a strong showing. KPop Demon Hunters won best animated feature and best original song, highlighting the growing influence of international and genre-blending projects in mainstream awards.

The ceremony balanced celebration with reflection, as several winners acknowledged labor tensions, global conflict and the rapidly changing economics of entertainment. Fashion once again drew attention on the red carpet, with bold silhouettes and political statements competing for headlines alongside the trophies.

As the first major stop of the awards season, the Golden Globes set the tone for the months ahead, signaling which films and series may carry momentum into the Oscars and Emmys — and reaffirming the industry’s continued shift toward streaming-driven storytelling.
