This is the first time that a government has put off an election after the election had been set a date by the Elections Commission, former MP and Colombo Mayoral candidate Mujibur Rahuman.
Speaking at a press conference, he said that the President and the government have neglected their responsibilities.
He said the President and the government have been assigned responsibility by the Constitution to provide all necessary facilities after an election is declared.
He said that the Local Government election could not be held due to the actions of the Finance Ministry Secretary, the Government Printer and the IGP who are acting on the advice of the President.
