Newly appointed Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa speaking to the media after assuming duties as Health Minister at the Ministry, said the health service is a public service and the main role of the Government is to maintain an optimal health service.
The Minister further said that the health staff are currently under stress due to the mistakes made in the past.
Dr. Jayatissa said the President will make a special intervention, and in a future constitution, he will work to confirm access to health as a basic human right of the public, and before that, he will dedicate himself to preparing a structure to bring the health service closer to the people, making it efficient and effective.
The Minister also requested all media organisations to move towards a new media culture that suits the world, respects each other, protects each other’s beliefs, and protects dignity.
The Minister further said that the media has played a crucial role in creating a huge political and social change in the country.
Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Additional Secretaries, Deputy Director Generals and other Ministry officials were also present.
