Govt. focuses on providing urea fertilizer for 4000 rupees from 2024 maha seaso
The government was able to reduce the price of a 50 Kg of a urea fertilizer bag from 42,000 rupees in the 2022 yala season to 8000 rupees by the time of the yala season in 2024.
In particular, the government has credited more than 55,000 million rupees to the accounts of the farmers from the 2022 yala season to the 2024 yala season.
Honorable President Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe as the Finance Minister agreed to increase the amount to 25,000 rupees per hectare from next maha season. Also steps have been taken to credit the amount of 25,000 rupees to the farmer’s accounts.
At the same time, the minister said that the government has focused on reducing the price of fertilizers and also mentioned that steps will be taken to reduce the price of a 50 kg of a urea fertilizer bag to 4000 rupees in the maha season of 2024.
Also, in the 2024 and 2025 maha season, the government has reached an agreement with the World Food Program to provide 55,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer to each paddy farmer free of charge. The minister also said that the government has approved the grant of the operating amount of 1.5 billion rupees required for the distribution of this fertilizer.
The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries Mr.Mahinda Amaraweera also mentioned that despite the economic crisis in the country, Honorable President Ranil Wickremesinghe has given the entire amount of money required for the agriculture sector without any hesitation.
The minister expressed these views while addressing a public meeting held in the Walasmulla area
