Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the government is considering extending the visas of Ukrainian tourists who are unable to travel to their home country due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He said that facts regarding this will be presented at the Cabinet meeting to be held today (28).
He said the External Affairs Ministry is already in discussions with the Immigration and Emigration Department in this regard.
The Minister said that since visas for tourists are issued for a minimum of one month, it is expected to take necessary steps to extend visas for Ukrainians staying in the country.
According to the Tourism Development Authority, there are currently around 4,000 Ukrainian tourists in Sri Lanka and about 11,500 Russian tourists in Sri Lanka.
