Govt. to release Rs. 80 Bn by nextweek to settle debts of CEB

The government has decided to release Rs. 80 billion from the Treasury by next Monday from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) loan to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.

A group of journalists yesterday (23) questioned the Minister about the decisions taken by the government regarding the fuel crisis at a special cabinet meeting. The Minister expressed these views.

Although there was a problem regarding fuel prices at this time, it was decided not to increase fuel prices considering the problems faced by the public. There is a maximum increase in the price of crude oil in the world market. But we further discussed that the government should keep fuel prices as they are.

Also, the government has decided to repay Rs. 80 billion of the loan to be paid by the Ceylon Electricity Board to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. The amount will be released by the Treasury by next Monday, the Minister said.
