Grade 5 Schol marking deferred until CID probe ends

Education Ministry Secretary Thilaka Jayasundara stated that the evaluation of the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination papers will not proceed until the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) reports on the ongoing investigation into the issue concerning the leak of examination papers.

She mentioned that if the investigation findings necessitate a re-examination, the exam will be held again, ensuring that no injustice will be caused to the students. Jayasundara made this announcement yesterday (20) during a media briefing at the Education Ministry.

She further explained that the CID has already taken swift steps to investigate the issue related to the examination papers, and if a re-examination is required, instructions have been given by the President and the Minister of Education to take necessary actions.She emphasized that the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, held on September 15 was conducted in an orderly manner by the Examinations Department and if any individual or group is found to have committed any wrongdoing, the law will be enforced strictly against them.

Jayasundara added that the Education Ministry together with the Examinations Department and a panel of experts, is currently conducting investigations regarding the exam. She also highlighted that this exam, which grants scholarships to students, has become highly competitive.
