Grama Niladharis will not disrupt Presidential Election

The Sri Lanka State Employees’ Federation has rejected claims made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who suggested that the government could use a strike by Grama Niladharis (village officers) as a reason to postpone the upcoming Presidential Election. The Union’s President, Sumith Kodikara, issued a press release addressing the Opposition Leader’s statement.

According to the release, attention was drawn to a remark made by Sajith Premadasa during a meeting with representatives of the Grama Niladhari trade unions on August 1. The Sri Lanka State Employees’ Federation emphasized that Grama Niladharis have successfully completed the preliminary tasks for the 2024 new voter list, which has been approved by the Election Commission and will be used for the presidential election.

Additionally, Grama Niladharis are finalizing the preparation and confirmation of polling stations under the guidance of the Election Commission.
