Residents of Thelulla area found parts of an elephant that was hacked to death floating in the Kirindi Oya in Thelulla area yesterday (13).
Kuda Oya Police said that the body of the elephant was found near the Thelulla Huwangamuwa Temple in Kirindi Oya, and the elephant’s trunk was cut and several more cuts were found on the neck and feet.
The Police are confident that this wild elephant may have been shot dead, cut into pieces and then dumped into the Kirindi Oya when it came to a cropland.
Wildlife officers and Police officers have launched a special operation with the help of villagers to search for the body parts of the elephant.
Uva Wildlife Provincial Assistant Director, and Kudaoya Police Officer in Charge are investigating the incident.
