Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha de Silva has welcomed the proposed new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), saying it could provide the foundation for a depoliticised path forward for the sport.
In a post on ‘X’, de Silva praised former SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne and his team for delivering on their undertaking to formulate a new constitution for SLC despite doubts and criticism surrounding the initiative.
“Some doubted Eran Wickramaratne’s ability to bring in a new constitution for SLC. Some questioned his decision to take up the challenge. Some even went as far as accusing him of switching political sides,” de Silva said.
He noted that while the proposed constitution may not be perfect and certain provisions could require amendment or removal following closer examination, it now provides an opportunity for the matter to be debated.
“The point is we can now debate the Bill and finally agree on a depoliticised path forward for the sport that we as a nation love,” he said.
De Silva expressed hope that the initiative would serve as a foundation to “make Sri Lanka cricket great again.” (Newswire)
